A regional professional community asked NorthStar to help build a five-year strategic roadmap. Leaders wanted a plan that reflected the whole membership and could actually be put to work.
The Challenge
Strategic plans often reflect the loudest voices in the room. This community wanted to hear from quieter members and every region it serves, and it wanted priorities that staff and volunteers could act on, not a document that would sit on a shelf.
What We Did
- Ran a 12-week engagement with a clear discovery, planning and recommendation sequence
- Designed member surveys and focus groups to draw out quieter members and regional perspectives
- Facilitated planning sessions with leadership
- Set priorities at 90 days, one year, three years and five years, so the first steps are clear on day one
- Set up ongoing signal scans, competitive monitoring and opportunity tracking so the plan stays current as the field changes
Why It Matters
Building implementation into the plan from the start means leaders leave with sequencing, not just aspirations. The ongoing monitoring keeps the roadmap tied to what is happening in the field, so the plan can be adjusted rather than rewritten.
